"Abe" Offers a Speech For Something to Eat
|
|
When Lincoln's special train from Springfield to Washington reached the Illinois State line, there was a stop for
dinner. There was such a crowd that Lincoln could scarcely reach the dining-room. "Gentlemen," said he, as he surveyed
the crowd, "if you will make me a little path, so that I can get through and get something to eat, I will make you a
speech when I get back."
