Help find the cure

Rick Walton's Other Workshops, Conferences, Book Talks, etc.

Adult Workshops, Classes, etc.

I can do for adults anything that I do for children. To keep both my interest and the interest of parents and teachers I try to make all of my school visits both child and adult friendly. But specifically for adults I can do the following:

For fees , see below.

Picture Book Writing Workshops

I've taught picture book writing workshops to thousands of people. The workshops can last from one hour to several weeks. In the workshops I cover what makes a good picture book, how to come up with picture book ideas, how to write and edit your picture book, and how to market your manuscript. In the longer workshops, students write picture books and we critique them as a class. Shorter workshops might just cover one aspect of writing picture book, such as "Coming Up With Ideas", or "Marketing". I've taught these classes for community schools, university professors, SCBWI conferences, and local libraries. I'm currently a part-time faculty member at Brigham Young University teaching picture book writing.

Book Talks

I can spend as much time as you'd like reading my books, discussing them, describing where the ideas came from and how they developed, and discussing my books in progress. I'm glad to answer any questions participants have.

Visits to College Classes

I've spoken to a large number of university English and Elementary Education classes on the writing life, writing picture books, coming up with ideas, getting marketed, etc.

Fees:

Some of these activities (signings, book talks, speaking to university classes) are probably best done as extra events when I'm going to be in your town for another reason, such as to speak to local schools. Fees for workshops are negotiable, based on the length of the workshop and how far I have to go to get there. For an idea of how much a workshop might cost, or ways to get me cheaper, see School Visits: Standard Fees
